On Christmas Day, the premiere of the New Year’s musical The New Snow Queen started at the National Palace “Ukraine”.
The author of the idea and producer of the project, Serhiy Perman, emphasizes that “this is the first time a musical of the Broadway format on such a scale and for such a large stage has been created in our country. This is a grandiose performance for modern children and their parents, and a historic moment for the Ukraine Palace: we have turned the page on New Year’s hodgepodge shows, which are quickly constructed for the holidays. “The New Snow Queen is another dimension, a breakthrough into the 21st century, high-level ideas, original music and the most popular Ukrainian artists.”
A huge team has been working for several months to create this spectacular, interactive show for the whole family: the author of bright, original music that is perfectly catchy and memorable from the first bars, one of the most popular composers, Dmitry Saratsky. Insightful and profound lyrics were written by Anna Zavalska. Director and choreographer Alexander Leshchenko dynamically built the action and created an interesting choreographic score for the production.
The exclusive, functional scenography in the form of a three-tiered and high-tech (with screens, ramps, labyrinths) iceberg that filled the entire huge stage of the Palace was developed by StarLight Scenery, the largest Ukrainian scenery production company.
Grandma Gerda’s bow in Gucci stockings performed by Dima Kolyadenko was a masterpiece, especially since the artist admitted that he “took it off” his mother, Anna Yakovlevna, his mother-in-law. More than 50 costumes were created especially for the musical. Of course, the stunning dress of the Snow Queen, played by Olya Polyakova, made a splash.
Olya Polyakova, in such a new role for her, performed for the first time, literally blowing the audience away not only by performing hit musical numbers, talentedly written by the composer with her voice range and skills in mind, but also by her bright acting talent. The shocking Dima Kolyadenko played Grandma Gerda in a colorful and juicy way, delighting the audience of all ages.
Mikhail Sokolovsky, a “factory worker” bursting with energy, made his debut on the big stage as Kai.
Vladimir Goryansky, a favorite of the theater audience, also made his debut… as Santa: an unexpected hero for the iconic winter fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, he turned into almost the main character of the twisted plot of the musical created by the authors of Kvartal 95.
The musical also features 10 fantastic circus performers with stunning acts, 30 dancers, including special guests – a unique LED dance group from Dnipro, Light Balance (winners of America’s Got Talent, 2017).
The New Snow Queen musical, which the whole country has been waiting for, was made possible thanks to the support of the world leader Mastercard and the largest Ukrainian bank Oschadbank.
The first days of the show were sold out: more than 35,000 tickets have already been sold, and the premiere performances of the New Year’s musical at the Ukraina Palace will run until January 4, 2022.
