Serhiy Zhadan presents a grand charity poetry evening in Kyiv!

“Hymns of the Baroque Wars” is a new collection of poetry, prose, and graphics by Serhiy Zhadan, to be published this fall by Meridian Czernowitz.

On September 20, at the National Palace of Arts “Ukraine”—the country’s premier stage—the Kyiv presentation of the collection will take place, combining text, light, and music. Good friends are helping to make this evening a reality: the event’s general partner, “First Private Brewery,” as well as the technology company blago.

“Hymns of the Baroque Wars” consists of texts written in Kharkiv between 2024 and 2025. These are chronicles of the city’s resistance, testimonies of people’s love, and an outspoken expression of what sustains and gives strength. It is Serhiy Zhadan’s first book in the past two years.

“I really want to bring together everyone I haven’t seen in a long time, those I haven’t had the chance to meet in recent months, and those I’ve only heard about—but whose presence has inspired and helped us all this time. For me, this is a special book—it’s full of names, faces, and rays of sunshine. It’s a kind of painful, conscious balancing act between poetry and prose, between typeface and line, between question and answer. I’d like to share this with you.”
