February 22, 2026—the first national film premiere at the Ukraine Palace!
Audiences will be the first to see the feature film Mavka: The True Myth.
The romantic fantasy Mavka: The True Myth tells the story of forbidden love. The mystical Mavka falls in love with biologist Lukyan instead of destroying him in the mysterious Dark Lake in the forest. But the inhabitants of the lake, nymphs and mermaids, are not ready to let their prey go so easily. They are willing to do anything to keep Mavka on the dark side and get Lukyan for themselves.
The film “Mavka. The Real Myth” is produced by Iryna Kostyuk and Anna Yeliseyeva, and the screenplay was written by Yaroslav Voitsekh — the team behind the animated film “Mavka. The Forest Song,” which grossed over $21 million at the global box office and became the highest-grossing Ukrainian film of all time.
The film will be directed by Katya Tsarik, known for her large-scale concert productions, music videos for top Ukrainian stars, and participation in the FILM.UA Group’s series anthology “The First Days.” The film’s director of photography is Yuriy Korol, who shot Zakhar Berkut, Train on December 31, and many other successful Ukrainian projects. The images of the main character and mermaids are created by Anna Osmechina, a stylist, fashion editor, and founder of the TTSWTRS brand, which has become a global fashion phenomenon.
